Tenor James Gilchrist is one of Britain’s best-known recitalists and oratorio specialists and has been described as ‘the finest Evangelist of his generation’.

For this concert he performs with pianist Anna Tilbrook, an outstanding accompanist who has collaborated with many leading singers and instrumentalists. Their programme is intended to be a mix of familiar and less well-known music – encouraging you to come along to hear songs that you love – and discover wonderful new ones along the way.

James writes about their choice of music: ‘We started from some ‘Bach-ian’ Schumann songs, and put them in a family context. All these composers were, of course, close friends, if not family. And Felix Schumann was Brahms’ godson, so it’s rather lovely to see Brahms’ two settings. Then for the second half, we’ve some new works by Francis Pott and we’ve offered Quilter’s cycle To Julia as a sort of sorbet afterwards! Quilter is a total genius in song.’
