The Trumpet Shall Sound: Crispian Steele-Perkins
Thursday 19 July, 7.30pm
Queens’ College Chapel
Crispian Steele-Perkins trumpet
David Hill organ
Trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins is world-renowned for the brilliance and versatility of his playing, which he demonstrates in this wide-ranging recital accompanied on the organ by Festival Director David Hill.
Their varied programme will showcase the evolution of the trumpet through 17th and 18th century classics by Clarke, Handel, Haydn and Mozart to more contemporary works that push the boundaries of the modern valved instrument. David Hill will also contribute two works for solo organ: Haydn’s delightful miniatures Pieces for a Musical Clock and Georgi Mushel's Toccata.
Be prepared for some surprises!
“Anyone who has seen Crispian Steele-Perkins in recital will know how persuasively he communicates his art, often fortified by instructive and entertaining verbal interludes.”
“Long ones, short ones, fat ones, thin ones... every conceivable shape of trumpet (and some inconceivable ones) come alike to Crispian Steele-Perkins.”
