Widely acknowledged as the one of the world’s greatest living string players, violinist Maxim Vengerov has spent 40 years performing on stage. First making headlines as a child prodigy, he studied with Galina Tourchaninova and Zakhar Bron, becoming a solo violinist at the age of five and making his first recording at the age of 10. Since then, he has gone on to win Grammy and Gramophone artist of the year awards, and was recently appointed Classic FM’s first ever solo Artist in Residence.

Vengerov shall be teaming up with the Romanian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Filarmonica Brasov, for a programme featuring Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.1, written during the 1917 Revolution, alongside Sibelius’s resplendent Karelia Suite, Tchaikovsky’s powerfully evocative Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture, and two works from the pen of Ukraine-born contemporary composer Alexey Shor – the tonal and romantic Seascapes, a sublime piece in four movements for violin and orchestra, and the newly-commissioned Symphonic Prelude, which will be enjoying its world premiere across the course of this tour. At the helm is the celebrated Armenian conductor, Sergey Smbatyan.
