Rachmaninov     Symphony No. 2

Marking the return of great orchestral music to the Corn Exchange with a bang, world-famous violinist Maxim Vengerov plays Mendelssohn’s beloved Violin Concerto with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, a demanding piece where the violinist’s virtuosic talents are on full display.

Vengerov also takes the lead in Alexey Shor’s Seascapes, a lyrical evocation of the beauty of saltwater, lighthouses, and distant sails on the horizon. The concert concludes with Rachmaninov’s Second Symphony, a towering masterpiece which builds to one of the most triumphant, soaring finales of all time.
