Featuring Kaleidoscope of Rainbows, and compositions by Mike Westbrook, Michael Garrick and others.
Kaleidoscope of Rainbows , composed by the much-lauded Neil Ardley, is a work that defies categorisation. Although often described as jazz, in fact it has proved to have wide appeal beyond the usual jazz audience. With an exotic big band of acoustic and electric instruments, and using the idioms of both jazz and rock, it takes a musical scale from the island of Bali and transforms it into a haunting composition, whose melodies linger in the mind. This is a unique opportunity to hear this very special work. The Guildhall School of Music and Drama is a renowned conservatoire, whose graduates become the famous musicians of tomorrow. The Jazz Orchestra is a twenty-strong ensemble of highly-skilled musicians, under the direction of Guildhall professors Scott Stroman and Martin Hathaway.
