The Festival welcomes back regular guests, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, as they celebrate their 60th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Sally Beamish, the acclaimed composer (and former viola player in the orchestra) has written a new work inspired by Gerard Manley Hopkins’ Windhover and dedicated to the group’s founder, Sir Neville Marriner.

The climax of the evening features Joshua Bell as soloist. Bell is not only one of the world’s truly great violinists, but also inspires passionate performances from his Academy colleagues. For his third visit to CMF, he plays perhaps the most popular concerto of them all – Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.

‘There is no doubt Joshua Bell’s phenomenal technique and tone justifies his superstar status’ The Guardian
