The site dates to the Late Iron Age and early Roman period (c.100BC to 150AD), and has yielded an exciting assemblage of metal objects, many of which link to the Roman military and some suggesting the presence of a shrine nearby. There are also indications that pottery was manufactured locally – it’s possible Wimpole has its very own Roman pottery made within the estate itself!
