Music for cello and piano by Beethoven and Kurtag

This programme was originally scheduled for a concert in 2020 at Cambridge’s West Road Concert Hall in celebration of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary. Because of the pandemic the concert has had to be rescheduled to the WRCH’s 2021-22 season.

Unfortunately Antonis Anissegos is no longer able to perform, and so the piano will be performed by David Christophersen. 
 
A compelling demonstration of the tenderness, passion and integrity of the Beethoven’s music by two outstanding artists. The programme offers haunting stillness with Kurtag’s solo pieces, one for piano and one for cello. 
 
Maria Magdalena Wiesmaier was born in Augsburg, Germany and studied cello at the Leopold Mozart Konservatorium, Augsburg, the Franz Liszt Academy, Weimar and in London with Christopher Bunting and Raphael Wallfisch. She broadcasts and performs as a soloist and chamber musician both in Germany and abroad, and accompanies the actor Klaus Maria Brandauer on solo tours, performing at the Vienna Burgtheater, Konzerthaus Berlin, Alte Oper Frankfurt and numerous festivals.
