Turkey has occupied a key place in global geopolitics since its foundation in the aftermath of the First World War. Straddling Asia and Europe, the Middle East and the Balkans, with borders touching several former Soviet Republics and a stockpile of American nuclear weapons on its soil, it is a pivotal player on the world stage.

When those foreign policy elements are coupled with the intricacies of its domestic political culture, Turkey is well worth discussing! Events of the last few years have made such discussions increasingly pressing. The failure of the Gulenist coup and the recent Presidential election have shaken deep-rooted elements within the country’s political landscape.

Erdogan’s flirtations with Russia have been looked on with alarm in Washington. Both domestically and in the foreign sphere, matters appear to be changing, rather rapidly.
