At the heart of the 2019 Festival, internationally-renowned tenor Robert Murray and pianist Andrew West are joined by actor and poet Seán Street in this unique performance of Schubert’s Winterreise (Winter Journey). Tracing a young man’s alienated journey through a frozen Winter landscape, Schubert’s extraordinary settings of Wilhelm Müller’s poems are here brought together with extracts from Captain Scott’s Antarctic diaries. Blending song and spoken word, two tragic journeys are woven into a dark and intense shared drama of the psyche. An unforgettable interpretation of Schubert's late, classic work, this performance is not to be missed.
