Natalie Clein cello
Cedric Perscia piano

Debussy Sonata for cello & piano
Kodály Sonata for solo cello, Op.8
Debussy Three Preludes for solo piano
Clarke Sonata for cello & piano

Natalie Clein’s passionate playing is perfectly suited to this programme of cello masterworks from the First World War period. Debussy, demoralised by illness and war, takes inspiration from the French Baroque yet breaks new ground.
While Kodály’s ardent sonata has been hailed as the ‘greatest utterance in this most demanding of genres since JS Bach solo cello suites’. Rebecca Clarke’s best-known work, the virtuosic Viola Sonata (performed here in the composer’s version for cello), summons ‘great waterfalls of sound, subsiding into moments of great tenderness.’

‘Natalie Clein fearlessly goes where others have feared to tread for a generation, living each and every phrase with a poetic intensity and emotional immediacy that captures the moment to perfection.’ Classic FM magazine
