What constitutes and motivates terrorism has been a subject of keen debate for some time, but one factor has been consistently overlooked: domestic violence. Joan Smith, author of the feminist classic Misogynies and Co-Chair of the Mayor of London’s Violence Against Women and Girls Board since 2013, explores how men with a history of domestic abuse - as both victims and perpetrators - become embroiled with terrorist organisations. Her new book, Home Grown, sets forth a course of action that could transform our approach to domestic abuse and save countless lives.
