During the winter of 2013-14, the UK experienced the most severe flooding ever recorded in these isles. At the same time, award-winning writer Edward Platt travelled through marsh and fen, town and village, documenting the destruction that the waters caused, speaking to those most directly and painfully affected. As such extreme weather events become increasingly likely, these dispatches from the frontline marks a piece of reportage that we ignore at our peril.
