We’re delighted to be offering another of Robin Phillips Sings & Plays programmes in the 2019 Cambridge Jazz Festival, once again offering the fantastic opportunity to enjoy a two-course Cotto menu before the performance, as well as a ticket-only option.

In this programme, the Robin Phillips Trio pays tribute to the music of one his biggest inspirations, Harry Connick Jr, from his most recognisable period 1989-1999. During this decade Harry shot to international fame with the When Harry Met Sally soundtrack and his ‘New York Swing’ albums such as We Are In Love and Blue Light, Red Light. He also followed his heart artistically recording two ‘New Orleans funk’ albums.

As last year, the performance will take place in the beautiful surroundings of the Gonville Hotel’s Atrium brasserie, in a jazz club setting. People choosing the dining option will also get the premium seating, but all seats offer good views and a jazz club ambience, with drinks from the bar being able to be consumed at tables.

In a special enhanced version of Robin’s Harry programme put together just for this year’s festival, he will be joined by bassist Jihad Darwish, drummer Alex Best, tenor saxophonist Sam Miles, and guitarist Neil Cowlan, as the group perform jazz standards brought new life by Connick Jr and a collection of his original tunes, including: We Are In Love, Recipe For Love, It Had To Be You, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, and With Imagination.

Adding electric guitar to the line-up for some songs, the group will also include tunes from the ‘New Orleans Funk’ albums She and Start Turtle including: I Just Whispered Your Name, City Beneath The Sea, and Hear Me In The Harmony which reveal Harry’s close connection to the Crescent City. Earlier in 2019, Robin visited the birthplace of both Harry and jazz music (New Orleans) whilst filming a documentary earlier this year, to be released in 2020.
