Cambridge Bonfire Night

Wednesday 7 October 2015

Cambridge Live are excited to announce details of this year’s Bonfire Night and firework display, organised on behalf of Cambridge City Council. The free event, which attracts over 25,000 people annually and is generously supported by Cambridge’s business community, will take place on Thursday 5 November on Midsummer Common.

This year it is easier than ever to donate: to give £2 to support Bonfire Night, members of the public can text BANG to 70500.

During October, the history of Bonfire Night will be brought to life across the city by local actor and storyteller Chip Colquhoun, who will be visiting businesses and schools as Guy Fawkes, meeting supporters and posing for photographs.

In addition, Birmingham Stage Company will appear at the Grafton Centre and Market Square on Saturday 24 October to present their hilarious Horrible Histories re-enactment of the Gunpowder Plot in a brilliant public performance for all the family.

This year’s Business Champion, RealVNC, has played a vital role in securing the future of the event, gathering support from across the city and there are still opportunities for local businesses to get involved. Despite this generous business support, the event still relies on individual donations.

Bonfire Night begins at 6pm on Midsummer Common with the Thurston Fun Fair, with the fireworks at 7.30pm followed by the lighting of the bonfire.

Lily Bacon, Founder & Executive Vice-President of RealVNC, explains: “It costs £60,000 to organise this spectacular free event for the people of Cambridge and we want to make sure that it is as memorable and stunning as ever.”

Cllr Richard Johnson, Executive Councillor for Community Arts & Recreation, said: “The Bonfire Night event on Midsummer Common really brings the people of Cambridge together. We are very grateful to this year’s Business Champion, RealVNC, and urge more local businesses to get involved.”

More information about Bonfire Night, including road closures and parking, will be coming soon.
