Coldham's Common Resident Information

Dear Resident,

Cambridge Folk Festival, 27 – 30 July 2023

This year’s festival is taking place on the last full weekend in July. This page includes practical information on how to contact the festival organisers, actions we are taking to minimise impact on local residents, and information about the use of the site at Coldham’s Common.

If you need to contact us for any reason up to and including Wednesday 1 August please email or call on 01223 357851 or tickets@cambridge.gov.uk. From Thursday to Sunday (09:00 -00:30) and Monday (until 14:00) contact the on-site Festival HQ on 01223 792511

Coldham’s Common will be used as a campsite for Folk Festival attendees. Every effort will be made to ensure that any inconvenience to the residents during this period is kept to a minimum.  The arrangements for the weekend are as follows:

1.           Folk Festival patrons will arrive at the site from 10.00am on Thursday 27 July onwards.  The site will be vacated on 31 July.

2.           A regular free bus service will be provided for festival attendees to and from the site to Cherry Hinton Hall.

3.           The campsite will be stewarded throughout the weekend.

The Coldham’s Common site is really important to the Festival as it is where the majority of the Festival patrons camp.  Due to the nature of the Festival it is a very family friendly site where we run workshops every morning for our younger guests from craft to learning how to play musical instruments. There is also storytelling and theatre performances.

As the making and playing of music is at the heart of the Festival, we also provide an open mic stage at Coldham’s situated within an enclosed marquee later in the evening in order to give festival attendees the opportunity to perform. Taking part in this way is an important part of every folk festival and here in Cambridge it is a very popular part of the festival as a whole.

Please note that there will be a children’s concert with Jason Maverick on Sunday 30 July between 11.50am and 12.50pm at the main site (Cherry Hinton Hall) (Doors open at 11.00am). Tickets are limited and available in advance to City residents from the City Centre Box Office and at the Cherry Hinton Hall site box office, subject to availability. They cost £4 for accompanying adults and £2 for children under 14 years old (children must be accompanied by an adult).

We are confident that this year's Festival will continue its tradition of being a successful, trouble-free event. We would like to thank all local residents for your continued co-operation and support of the Festival.
