Philip Glass Glassworks
Philip Glass excerpts from Satyagraha, Akhnaten & The Photographer
Philip Glass's music is instantly recognizable – with pulsing rhythms, hypnotic repetition and slowly shifting patterns of notes. His music sits somewhere between Classical and Rock, intricately constructed yet filled with familiar chords and clean electronic sounds.
Glassworks, his 1981 cult classic, was composed in short, easily digestible tracks for the new ‘Walkman generation’. Decades later, it remains iconic.
The Philip Glass Ensemble was formed in 1968 as the original ‘laboratory’ where the composer could experiment with new ideas, new sounds. And the musicians could develop the control and superhuman concentration needed to play this music.
