Council helps make Cambridge bright this Winter

Thursday 25 November 2021

THIS December, the council is helping to bring festive illuminations to life around the city by restoring Christmas trees in Arbury Court and Wulfstan Way, buying new Christmas lights, and repairing the power supply.

Also taking place in December, Winter Brights will see two LED-light displays designed by schoolchildren from Queen Emma and Queen Edith primary schools installed in local shops, a ‘Kidsmas’ display that will complement the Christmas tree and other festive displays around Queen Edith’s ward. Kays Chemist and The Coffee House on Wulfstan Way have generously supported the project by hosting lights throughout the Christmas period.

Then in January 2022, Cambridge looks forward to the return of a project that got its start in 2021: Window Wanderland, a communal art project where households are encouraged to decorate their front windows with colourful displays of lights and paper. An online map will show the locations of participating households. This year, schools are also invited to participate.

Window Wanderland will return from the week commencing Monday 10th January, running until Sunday 23rd January 2022. For more information, and to learn how you can participate and spread the word in your neighbourhood, please click HERE for more information.

Cllr Anna Smith, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “Last year, Window Wanderland was a wonderful way of bringing lights to our streets. I’m delighted that we are planning for that event again this year, and I hope even more people will take part. I’m also thrilled to see that we have been able to bring light back to two Christmas trees, and look forward to seeing the work of local pupils light up the night with Winter Brights.”

Winter Brights and Window Wanderland are provided by Cambridge City Council, with generous support from Arm, Welcome Back Fund and Vodafone.
